Publishing principles

How ICPCAS publishes

  • Free, always. No publication is sold or paywalled. Standards you are held to must be free to read.
  • Versioned. Every document has a code and edition; superseded editions stay available so a program can see what applied to it.
  • Open comment first. Nothing binding is adopted without a published draft, a comment period and a published response.
  • Licensed for reuse. Guidance documents and templates are released under a Creative Commons Attribution licence; standards may be quoted and reproduced with attribution and without alteration.
  • Translated. Standards and discipline requirements are published in English first and in Spanish and Mandarin within six months of adoption; the English text governs in any discrepancy.
Frequently asked

About publications

Can we reproduce the standards in our own materials?

Yes, with attribution and without alteration. You may quote, excerpt or reproduce the standards in full in student handbooks, self-studies and internal documents. You may not present an altered version as the ICPCAS standard.

Which version is authoritative, web or PDF?

The PDF with the document code. The web version of the standards is maintained to match, and where they differ the PDF governs. Each PDF states its edition and effective date on the cover.

Are translations official?

Spanish and Mandarin translations of the standards and discipline requirements are official ICPCAS publications and may be used for self-studies in those languages. The English text governs in any discrepancy.

How do I get notified about new drafts?

Subscribe above, choosing “Public consultations”. Drafts are also posted on this page and announced in the news section with the closing date.

Can I request a publication in an accessible format?

Yes. All PDFs are tagged for screen readers. Large-print or alternative formats are provided on request within ten business days.

Do you publish the names of commenters?

Comments are published with the commenter's organization and role, or as “individual practitioner” or “member of the public”. Names are published only with consent.
